Central City Choir Competition 2011

The highly competitive choir competition was held in Mabopane Central City on Monday.

This programme was proudly sponsored by Dunns, Starlite, EE Enterprise, Fashion for the people and Best inventory. Five groups from different areas played their roles in this highly contested programme. Those groups include gospel choirs, cultural choirs, teenager’s choirs, senior choirs and youth categories. Each of the winners in these categories went away with R1000 and a trophy.

 The station manager said the main aim of this programme is to make Central City home for choirs. “We are encouraging community members to start choir groups and register for next year competition. This is also a social responsibility which we want to give back to our community.” Some of the spectators won themselves t-shirts for being part of the competition. 

Mamoage Group Choir from Mabopane won a senior choir award. The Horse shoe took position two, even though they didn’t win the price, they are rewarded for their outstanding performance the best recording bill opportunity by the programme director pastor Naledi and they are expected to be seen on Gospel Time production soon. Pastor Naledi emphasized more on encouraging youth to do something in life and to stay away from alcohol and drug abuse. “This competition is also an anti-drugs and anti-crime programme.“

Bana ba lesedi is a group from winterweld led by Jonas Maokene and they went away with the gospel choir award. This was a tough competition as the groups lik Amadodana ase Tshwane amongst the rest were also there for a trophy as well.

Beruit Youth Choir from Mabopane in Beruit has won the youth category award under the leadership of Aintoinette Maditsi. Antoinette Madisi said the group is over the moon and they feel honored by an Oscar. Blessed Voices which is based in Winterveld  won the teenagers group price while Tswaranang  from winterveld  took the Cultural group award.

 Groups that didn’t win don’t mean that they are losers, the judges made some difficult decisions as there must be one winner.
